Welcome Panthers

Our Counseling and Guidance team welcomes you to Pioneer Valley High School. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive counseling program that supports the personal, academic, and social development of every student.

Counselors and support staff connect with students through one-on-one meetings, classroom presentations, and group sessions to ensure each student receives the guidance and resources they need to succeed.

Parent Conferences:

PVHS offers parent conferences. Please contact your school counselor to set up a meeting.

Credit Recovery:

PVHS offers credit recovery options to help students make up courses required for graduation or A-G requirements.

Options Available:

Summer School: In-person live programming during the summer.
Cyber High: Credit recovery options for students in the Migrant Education program.
Extended Learning Opportunity (ELO): During the school year, students can enroll in an ELO elective course where they work on an online platform called Edgenuity to recover credits. ELO courses are prioritized for Seniors and Juniors.

Dual Enrollment

Dual Enrollment (CCAP):

Dual Enrollment allows Pioneer Valley High School students two pathways to begin earning credits at Allan Hancock College while still enrolled in high school. College and Career Access Pathways (CCAP) and High School Enrichment at AHC. Through this program, students can take community college courses right on their high school campus or on the college campus. These classes count toward both your high school diploma and your college transcript.

College & Career Access Pathways (CCAP)

College & Career Access Pathways (CCAP)

In CCAP Dual Enrollment, students enroll in AHC courses offered as part of a College and Career Access Pathways (CCAP) partnership agreement between the Allan Hancock Community College District and the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District. Classes taught at a high school during school hours are restricted and are only open to students from a participating high school district. Classes taught at a high school campus outside of school hours are open to the public. Students receive both high school and college credit for completing courses in the Dual Enrollment program.

High School Enrichment (formerly known as College Now!)

High School Enrichment (formerly known as College Now!)

High School Enrichment (Non-CCAP) allows students to enroll in AHC courses that are not covered by a CCAP partnership agreement with the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District. These courses are typically taken outside of the regular high school day. Enrollment fees are waived, but college-related fees apply (fees are typically $26-$50 per semester) . Students are also responsible for the cost of any books and supplies. Students receive college credit for courses taken, but their high school will determine if they are able to receive dual credit toward their high school graduation requirements as well.

Cal-GETC - The California General Education Curriculum refers to specific coursework at community college that transfers to a California State University (CSU) or a University of California (UC) campus.

CTE Pathways

Career Technical Education (CTE) Pathways:

Pioneer Valley High School offers high-quality Career and Technical Education (CTE) through a variety of structured career pathways. Each pathway is a clearly defined sequence of courses that takes you through progressive levels of technical learning: introductory and advanced.

CTE gives you the chance to apply your knowledge in real-world scenarios while exploring a range of related career options — helping you build both skills and confidence for your future.

Below is a list of all the CTE pathways available at Pioneer Valley High School. For more information, talk to your school counselor.

Independent Studies

Short Term Independent Study:

Must be fewer than 16 days over the course of the school year.
Typically used in cases where a student is traveling out of the area for a short period of time.
The student remains in their regular coursework and completes assignments before their return to school.
If completed assignments are satisfactory, the student earns academic and attendance credit.
Please see your school counselor as soon as possible to inform teachers and sign paperwork to be placed on Short Term Independent Study.

Long Term Independent:

Must be more than 16 days over the course of the school year.
Typically used in cases where students are unable to attend regular classes on campus.
Independent Study may be taken on a full-time basis, or in conjunction with courses taken in a classroom setting.
Independent Study requires approval from school administration.

Registration

Course Registration:

Incoming Freshmen Registration will take place January. All other class registrations will take place during Spring Semester (approximately February) in your classes. Please connect with your counselor if you missed registration dates.
