AVID, which stands for Advanced Via Individual Determination, is a program that assists first-generation college bound students. Its mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness in a global society. The AVID elective class teaches students college skills in the areas of writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading. Many of the participating students have gone to a 4-year university, after graduating high school. PVHS has AVID alums at UCLA, UCSB, Cal Poly, University of San Diego, and Stanford, just to name a few.
